Scarborough Southwest is made up of the area south of Eglinton Avenue East to Lake Ontario, between Victoria Park Avenue to the west and Markham Road to the east.
Our riding is situated along the waterfront where the old cities of Toronto and Scarborough meet. It is made up of vibrant neighbourhoods like Cliffcrest, Oakridge, Ionview, Birch Cliff, Birch Cliff Heights, Clairlea, Birchmount Park, Cliffside and the scenic Scarborough Bluffs.
Many people call our diverse riding home, including the largest Bangladeshi Canadian community in Canada as well as many people of Indigenous, Tamil, Filipino, Chinese, Caribbean, Eastern European, Latinx and East African descent.
The Scarborough Southwest NDP is an active political riding association of both Canada's NDP and the Ontario NDP. We currently have an executive committee of 19 people, as well as an active Policy & Education sub-committee and plans for more. We strive to ensure that our riding association is reflective of the communities we live in and a welcoming space for all.
In the June 7, 2018 provincial election, Doly Begum was elected as the NDP Member of Provincial Parliament for Scarborough Southwest - the first NDP MPP in our area for almost 25 years.
